How do I download a free midi file?
Each midi file in the list has a menu that you can open by clicking the menu icon. In this menu you can find the download options. Depending on your browser, you will be prompted for a download location.
How can I import a midi file?
How to import/load a midi file depends on the software you are using. For now, refer to your DAWs manual to learn how to import midi files. Later, we will add short how to's on our blog.
Can i use the downloaded midi files in my music?
The files are provided as 'study material' and you can use them in any way you want as long as it is for personal, non-commercial use.

We hope the files will help and inspire you to develop the skills required to produce your own unique arrangements/compositions. In case you compose a song for commercial use - whether it is inspired by one of our files or not - it is always your responsibility to ensure that your arrangements/compositions are your own and do not violate intellectual property laws. Why do many free midi files have only one track of no more than 8 or 16 bars?
Instead of sharing multi-track midi files of complete songs, likes to share shorter, individual midi patterns of leads, chord progressions, basslines, etc. This way we can better illustrate how a certain pattern could sound (like a lead or a chord progression).

It will be up to you and your creativity to combine lead, chord progression, bassline, groove and other elements to complete songs. We'll be posting tutorials on our blog to assist you with the arranging/composing part.
How can I share the free midi files with my friends?
You have several options. First of all, you can email a midi file to yourself by using the email option in the midi file menu. After that you can forward the email to your friends using the standard forward option of your email service.
You can also share midi files with your friends on popular social networks like facebook, twitter and google+.
How can I find a downloaded midi file on the site?
Just do a text search using the name of the file (e.g. 'pattern-099.mid'). The website does not display filenames, but you can search using the name of the midi file.
How do I change my password?
First you need to logon. Then click on 'my account' in the top menu. On the Account Settings tab you can change your password.
What if I do not remember my password?
In the login screen, click the 'Forgot your password?' link. Enter your email address in the form and click the Reset button. We will send you a link via which you can reset your password.
How do I change my avatar?
Login and click on 'my account' in the top menu. On the Account Settings tab you will find your current avatar and a link to is a service that allows your avatar to follow you (on gravater enabled websites). To use a different avatar, change your avatar at
I cannot play the files. I hear no sound. What is wrong? relies on Adobe Flash for playing files. If you are having trouble playing files we suggest you try to play YouTube videos first. If there are problems with your flash installation then most likely playing videos on YouTube will fail too.
Upgrading Flash on your computer will in most cases solve the problem.

How do I join a Midi2MP3 competition?
Click the Midi2MP3 Competitions button in the menu. This brings you to the page with a list of competitions. You can only join competitions for which the mp3 submission period has not yet been closed. To check the dates, simply click on a competition in the list and read the terms and conditions. Here you can also find the details on how and where you need to upload your mp3.
What happens if I win a Midi2MP3 competition?
A couple of things. You and your submission will enter our hall of fame and be visible on the Midi2MP3 competitions page. Also, Midichords will contact you and make sure you receive your prize. Finally, we may ask you to tell us a bit more on how you composed your arrangement. The reason for this is that we would like everyone to learn from these Midi2MP3 competitions. Your explanations will be published on our blog with a reference to your winning composition.
How can I connect my existing Midichords account to my Facebook account?
If the email address you used for Midichords matches your primary Facebook email, you can simply choose 'Login with Facebook' in the top menu. After you have entered your login details on the Facebook login page, Midichords will connect the two accounts. Note that this procedure will result in a new Midichords account in case the email addresses do not match.
If you used different email addresses for Midichords and Facebook, then login to Midichords first (using the normal 'login/signup' option in the top menu) and then choose 'Connect with Facebook' in the top menu. After you have entered your login details on the Facebook login page, Midichords will connect your two accounts even if the email adresses don't match. Note that this procedure will never result in a new Midichords account (as Midichords will always connect your Facebook account with the Midichords account you are currently logged into).
I am already connected to a Facebook account. How can I connect to a different Facebook account?
Login to Midichords using your original Facebook account. Go to 'My Account' (top menu) and click the 'Connections' tab. Log out of Facebook(!) and click the facebook connect link in the Connections tab. Enter your new Facebook login details on the Facebook login page. After successful login, Midichords will connect your account to the new Facebook account.
Can I connect multiple Facebook accounts?
No, this is not possible (yet).
Can I remove my Facebook connection?
Removing the Facebook connection is the same as logging in directly without using the 'Login with Facebook' option. Therefore, simply use the 'Login/Signup' option in the top menu.
Note that if you do not know or remember your password, simply request a new password by going to the 'Login/signup' page and clicking the 'Forgot password?' link.
What does 'published on Facebook' mean when I read a blog post?
If you are connected to your Facebook account, shares certain actions with Facebook, including the blog posts that you read.
You can always switch this sharing feature off by a) clicking the little blue facebook icon in front of the text 'published on facebook' and unchecking 'Publish my actions on Facebook' or b) by going to your 'My Account' and clicking on the 'Connection' tab (while you are connected to Facebook). Here you will find the 'Publish my actions on Facebook' checkbox. Simply uncheck it and we will not share your actions with Facebook anymore.
To remove individual actions, go to your 'My Account' and click the 'Activity Log' tab. Here you find a list with actions that we shared with Facebook. You can unpublish individual actions or unpublish all actions at the same time. It is also possible to unpublish a published post by clicking the little facebook icon in front of the text 'published on facebook' and choosing 'Unpublish this post' in the menu.
How can I suggest a YouTube video?
Go to the list with videos by clicking the 'Video Tutorials' button under the logo. This will open the video tutorial page. Above the first video in the list you will find the link for suggesting a video. Click it and a field appears in which you can paste a YouTube link.
You can either paste the link you find in your browser's address bar, for example:

If you happen to paste an incorrect link and we cannot find the video on YouTube, we'll reject the suggestion and show you a message (after which you can correct the link and try again).
What types of videos can I suggest?
Everything that smells like a music production tutorial, music theory, tips & tricks, DAW specific tutorials and anything else that may be useful for computer musicians.
We also accept 'In the Studio with <insert name of famous person>' type of videos, but no music videos, funny videos, how to bake cupcakes or sexy girls take a swim. You get the picture ;)
I suggested a video, but it does not show up. Why?
We go for quality rather than quantity, which is why we review every single YouTube video that is suggested.
It is possible that we have not yet reviewed your suggestion or that we denied it in case it does not meet our standards.
